Rhodes is one of the most fascinating islands in the Dodecanese complex with many historical and natural wonders to explore, among which countless fantastic beaches you should definitely check out. Here’s our list of the 5 best beaches in Rhodes.
Traganou is a long sandy beach with crystal clear blue waters just 20km south of Rhodes Town. There are a few sunbeds and umbrellas to hire but the beach is absolutely unspoilt for its most part.
Tsampika is an utterly beautiful beach of turquoise waters and golden sand under the shade of an imposing rock. There are sunbeds and umbrellas to hire. Yet the beach is so long that you will definitely find a spot to lay your towel on the sand if you prefer. Tsampika Beach is situated 25km south of Rhodes Town.
Anthony Quinn Bay
Anthony Quinn is a small bay with emerald waters 20km south of Rhodes Town. The beach was named after the famous actor because rumour has it that this particular cove was Quinn’s favourite back in the 60s when he spent time in Rhodes while filming the all-time classic film, The Guns of Navarone.
Elli certainly isn’t among the most pristine beaches in Rhodes as it is situated right in the heart of Rhodes Town but this is actually its great advantage as well. A fully organized sandy beach with all amenities, Elli lies within easy walking distance from pretty much everywhere in Rhodes Town.
Prassonisi is perhaps the most exotic beach in Rhodes. It is in essence a narrow stretch of land that creates two separate beaches, both of which are sandy with crystal clear waters. Prassonisi is located 85km south of Rhodes Town but it’s well worth a visit for its absolutely impressive scenery.
That said, the number 1 reason to visit Prassonisi is surfing. During the summer months, especially July and August when strong north winds blow in the Aegean Sea, Prassonisi becomes heaven on earth for windsurfers and kite-surfers from all over the world. You can hire surfing boards and other equipment on the beach itself.
An amazing way to visit a couple or more of the best beaches in Rhodes is by joining a full-day boat tour from Rhodes Town.
