The Ionian Islands are famous all across the globe for their gorgeous beaches. For good reason. Zante is no exception as it is home to some of the most stunning beaches in Greece. Here’s our list of the top 5 beaches you should definitely check out in Zante.
- Navagio Beach
Navagio (Shipwreck) Cove is not just the most spectacular beach in Zante but also the island’s most iconic attraction as well. This sandy bay of turquoise waters and dramatic white cliffs would be utterly fascinating even without the shipwreck that lies on the white sand since 1980. However, it’s this very shipwreck that earned this beach its worldwide fame. Navagio Beach is accessible only by water, with boats departing from Porto Vromi Maries every 20 minutes.
- Banana Beach
Less pristine and exotic than Navagio Beach but way more comfortable and easy-going, Banana Beach is a long sandy beach in the southern part of the island. Banana Beach is the longest beach in Zante and features the softest sand you could ever dream of. That said, it can get quite crowded, so it’s best to avoid it during peak season.
- Gerakas Beach
Part of the National Marine Park of Zakynthos, Gerakas Beach may be a gorgeous beach for holiday-goers but it’s also a nesting site for the super cute caretta caretta turtles. This is why Gerakas Beach is only open from 07:00 in the morning to 20:00 in the evening so as not to disturb the turtles at dusk and at night when they will most probably be hatching or laying their eggs.
- Agios Sostis Beach
Although quite touristy and overcrowded, you definitely can’t miss spending a day at Agios Sostis Beach. The latter is one of the most picturesque and romantic beaches in Zante thanks to the beautiful wooden bridge that connects the beach to a nearby rocky islet. The scenery is jaw-dropping and you’ll snap some of the best photos of your entire vacation there.
- Alykes Beach
If you’re dreaming of a calm, relaxing beach with full services and easy access, then Alykes is just the place for you. Alykes Beach is the ideal spot to spend an entire day by the sea as it is home to good restaurants and beach bars alike.
